House of Bears July/August challenge

'An artist cannot do anything slovenly'

This is my entry for a great challenge over at The House of Bears   for Jane Austen quotes.
So glad they are allowing digital entries as it's been too hot to go up in my craft room at present.

The easel and canvas are actually in my conservatory at present (photo stretched to fit this design) but the real canvas is still blank waiting for my husband to get his paints out and do something with it.

Thanks for stopping by and looking x

White on White (again) challenge #32

I had so much fun making a white on white card for the fabulous challenge over at Artful Times that I made another card to enter...

Not sure of all the names of punches - sorry.
The piece of card I cut to look like a fence had a Martha Stewart punch along top, and then because I need a bigger 'ribbler' I folded the card in half and put it in the ribbler up to the start of the Martha Stewart design and then turned the handle in reverse so it didn't ribble over the top of that part.
Thought it made it more like a fence and give it some texture too.

Then another Martha Stewart punch used for bottom part to represent grass - it's part of the set that the corner punch has a little bird on.
Butterfly punch also from her and have used 2 for each butterfly, with wings folded up on top layer for more depth.

The bike is an old Spellbinders die and this is the first time I have used it properly.
I bought it, as it's in several parts and I thought the wheels and frame could be cut up and used for grungy/steampunk themes.

Balloons and flower are X-cut dies but one balloon also put through a Cuttlebug embossing folder to give it more texture.
Cat and mice are a Cuttlebug die.

thanks for stopping by ...Gill x
oh.... and for some great white on white inspiration pop over to Artful Times where there are such great examples.

white on White...challenge #32

Neet and Sam have a great challenge over at Artful Times blog where the theme is 'White on White'.
Wasn't sure I could do this, but after giving it some thought and trying out different things found it was so much fun.
Actually, taking the photo was more difficult, trying to get it to look white and one colour LOL
This is my 8" x 8" card

As whites can vary, I used all the same card for the layers.
I used a Martha Stewart punch as the main layer. This was a 6 ¾" square so that when punching it left little squares at each corner and a line where the punch doesn't meet.
Sometimes I cut across the corner so it leaves a triangle but this time left the square, as I then added a separate small spellbinders square die cut into a triangle, that had also been run through a Cuttlebug embossing swirly pattern folder. Thought this made it look like turned up corners.
Layered flowers made with dies by; Marianne large swirl, X-cut flowers and cogs, The flowers also were ran through with (I think a cuttlebug embossing folder, little square sort of brick like - have put it down and can't find it now LOL) centres clear bead crystals. Used 3 swirls for the stems.

Birds and leaves  by Marianne dies, Butterfly may be X-cut (not sure) but did 2 layers of butterfly, top with wings bent up for depth.
got these from one of those 99p type cheap shops

House of Bears June quote challenge

Those bears at 'The House of Bears' blog are such great guys bears; hearing what they have been up to and seeing their fabulous art work always cheer me up and makes me smile if I feel a bit down.

The bears are having a great June challenge all about quotes from 'Jane Eyre' and the quote I chose to use is: "I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will".

this is my entry

I'd stamped the main girl a 'La Blanche' stamp and it was one of those days that it didn't come out well - so I added some more to it with a black pilot pen and then used a 'kanban' stamp of the couple to fit within the face.
Background colour is using distress stains - tumbled glass, shabby shutters, Victorian velvet and scattered straw

Not sure who the bird on branch die by (think its a Marianne one - apologises if not)coloured with distress stains and detail with pilot pen.
Added a few flowers from some small punches.

I've been saving little netting bags which had onions, garlic and all sorts in for ages - I knew they would come in handy one day.
Other mini stamps used by 'Hero Arts'

Challenge 31 Maps

Hi there, was nearly too late ...this is my entry for a lovely challenge on 'Maps/Cartography' at the Artful Times  blog and over there you can also see lots of fabulous projects for this theme.

Used tumbled glass distress stain on a stamp I made myself to give a border. The stamp was excess rubber cut away from a stamp and coated with some texture gel to give this effect.

Did a light covering with turquoise shade Pan Pastel over card and then stamped map with  black archival ink. Map was a Papermania Urban stamp called 'All aboard'.
Printed and cut out the 'MAP' letters with a black outline around them which I created on my computer and then stamped them also with the map stamp. Added some distress stains in Tumbled glass, Scattered straw and Shabby shutters.

Stamped car and travel word - both from IndigoBlu set called 'Grand Tour1' in black archival ink.

I stamped over the original border using the stamp I made with black archival ink lightly rubbed over it, so wasn't too heavy.

Stamped and cut out watch by 'Cherry Pie' and inked with distress stains.
Used distress inks randomly around edges in Scattered straw and Walnut stain.
When everything stuck down used Quickie glue pen and gold foil on corners, letters, car and watch.

Out of a Hat Creations - challenge #63 Tickets

Howdie doodie my fellow crafters... hope all well with you this fine day...sun trying to shine here but very cold for June.

I've missed a lot of crafting in May due to workmen in house type of thing, well in garden really and then last week I got an insect bite and had a reaction to it which meant I couldn't use my arm properly..I swear the insect was huge... with a wingspan of 3ft...OK a bit of an exaggeration but it felt like it LOL ... I bought a few crafty things in the meantime to cheer myself up..well you have to don't you?

anyhow... there is a great challenge over at Out of a Hat Creations about 'Tickets' and 'just the ticket' for me to use some new stamps I got yesterday.

Other than stamps, the 'Ticket to Paradise' I designed using my computer, printed out and then used Gel pens over writing and embossed with clear embossing powder.
Then using distress stains started ageing and grunging it.

Stamps used:  'All aboard map' by Urban Stamps/Papermania and 'Grand Tour 1' by IndigoBlu.
Also used 'Peony purple' dye ink by Impress, Vintage photo distress pad, Tim Holtz distress stains in Scattered straw, Victorian velvet and walnut stain.
Black permanent pen around edges.
Thanks for stopping by ....happy crafting x

WOYWW #206

Well it’s Wednesday which can only mean one thing, Happy WOYWW… and for anyone not knowing - WOYWW means ‘What’s On Work-desk Wednesday’ and involves lots of blog hopping fun by lovely folk from all around the world. All this is thanks to the lovely Julia over at Stamping Ground
Been a few weeks since my last WOYWW which I usually post on my other blog as been busy doing some garden stuff ready for some workman to come in next week.

So what’s on my desk? not that much this time.
Spent last Friday moving my craft room around - the afternoon sun was in my eyes so not very ideal. Not finished yet but looks like this at present and on desk is a box filled of lovely Brenda Pinnick goodies which I've had for ages but now time to stop looking and use it.
And right at bottom a couple of quick cards.

thanks for stopping by.....have a lovely day ...Gill x

Clothes peg/or paper clip (challenge 55)

Made this for a fabulous challenge over at Out of a hat creations blog

and it was a bit of a challenge as I couldn't find a suitable paper clip and the only peg I could find was the one I use to hold by my card etc with when I'm using the heat gun, so I wanted it still to be usable LOL

Stamped fairy on some shrink plastic, coloured it, cut it out and shrank it. Punched a hole at end of peg and added some colour to peg with alcohol inks.

Stamped some small flowers and attached fairy. Used alcohol ink on bow too.

Used 'peacock feather' stamp by Rubber Stampede, Harmony and bird by Stamptivity, scroll and mesh from SeeD's collection, Black archival ink,  Inktense pencils.

Special Moments

This is my first time for an art journal challenge but I made this for a lovely challenge called 'Special Moments' over
at Art Journal Journey blog

Acrylic paints used were: soft green, canary yellow, sea spray, chocolate brown and deep orange made by Do Crafts.
I found an ivy stencil I'd made years ago when stencilling our house, and using stencil brush used Plaid Folkart ripe avocado and Decoart purple acrylic paint on it and when dry, painted pages over with sea spray paint.

Using the eraser at the end of a pencil, I splodged on white paint.

Pressed a stamp design into some mouldable fun foam and stamped on page with  black archival ink.

Covered pages with diluted deep orange paint and wiped some off with a cloth.
Used leaf, tempus fugit and bird stamps which were free from Craft Stamper magazine. Used pear-shaped shading stamp (forgotten who makes that - Stampscapes maybe)
Used pilot pens to write a couple of quotes.
To finish off used several Inktense pencils to colour leaves, bird and various highlights and other areas.
Thank you so much for looking xxx
